The police department cannot estimate how long you will be without power. Check to see if your neighbors have power, as it could be

For weather related closings, listen to your local television
station, or radio station for closing broadcasts which are aired several times each hour. Also there are several times each

How do I have Fingerprints taken?
The organization requesting fingerprints from you will supply a fingerprint card. Finger prints are

can be done by the Dept of Motor Vehicles, the State Police, or a garage licensed to do state inspections.
Help! I’m locked out
of my car.
The Rochester Police Department only performs MV lockouts in emergency situations, such as a child is locked in the car,
or an animal is locked in the car on extreme temperatures days (hot or cold.) We cannot unlock vehicles with electric locks, as it
could damage the entire mechanism. We can provide a number for a garage/tow company to perform the service. There is a fee charged
by the garage for this.
I am a patch collector. How can I get one of your patches?
The Rochester Police Department does
not participate in patch trading.
I think I have a warrant for my arrest. How do I find out?
Unfortunately, we cannot provide
this information over the phone. You must come to the police department to verify a warrant.
When do I have to report an accident
to the Police?
According to N.H. RSA 264:25, Reporting Requirements: In the State of New Hampshire, any Motor Vehicle Accident causing
death, personal injury, or combined damage in excess of $1,000 must be reported in writing to the Division of Motor Vehicles within
15 days.
This can be accomplished by calling the Police to the scene so that they can file a report. If the police file a report this
meets the above requirement, and you as the driver are not required to notify the Division of Motor Vehicles.
An alternative to calling
the Police is to obtain a State of New Hampshire Motor Vehicle Accident Report form and complete it yourself and then mail it to the
State. These forms are available at the Police Department, as well as at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
How do I obtain a pistol
permit?
You must complete an application. This application is available in person at the Police Department, downloaded and printed
from our website (see Forms Section) or downloaded and printed from the New Hampshire Department of Safety website.
How long will it
take to obtain a Pistol Permit?
A permit must be issued within 14 days after receipt of the application. If the application is
denied, the reason for the denial must be delivered to the applicant in writing.
How much does a Pistol Permit cost?
Currently, the
fee for a resident Pistol Permit is $10.00. The fee for a Non-Resident Pistol Permit is $20.00. Application for a non-resident permit
is made through the NH Department of Safety.
Do I need a pistol permit to possess a pistol in my home?
No. A permit is not required
to possess a pistol in your home. What a pistol permit does is permit you to carry a loaded handgun concealed upon your person or
in any vehicle.
Does my New Hampshire Resident Pistol Permit allow me to carry a concealed handgun in all 50 states?
No. Some states
recognize and accept a New Hampshire Pistol Permit while others do not. Reciprocity agreements are subject to change without notice.
Anyone planning to travel to another state should confirm with that state that thier permit will be accepted.

Where can I get a lock for my weapon?
Safety
locks for your weapon are free for Rochester residents while supplies last. Otherwise, they can be purchased from department stores
that carry hunting supplies and at gun shops.
How can I contest a traffic citation?
On the back of the pink copy that the officer gives to you are several boxes that describe your options. You check the appropriate box and mail your ticket to the address on the back of the form. Your options include; pleading guilty and paying the appropriate fine.; pleading nolo (no admittance of guilt) and pay the fine, or you can plead not guilty and request a trial. The court will be notified of your request and a letter with a trial date will be mailed to your last known address.

How can I get my car out of impound?
If you car has been impounded, as part of an investigation, the police department
will contact you to let you know when the impound has been lifted. If your car has simply been towed, you pay the fees owed
to the garage for any towing and storage and your car can be released.
How can I find out if my vehicle has been towed?
Before you park your car, check to make sure you are not in a prohibited parking zone, such as handicapped, without proper plates or placards, in a tow away zone, blocking a driveway, or otherwise creating a traffic hazard. Park appropriately. The Police Department does keep a record of all vehicles towed for police purposes. You can contact the dispatch center at 603-330-7127 x 1, and ask the dispatcher to check if your vehicle has been towed for a police reason.
How long does it take to bail someone who has been arrested?
Once
a determination of bail has been obtained for an arrestee, the person bailing the arrestee will be advised to have the appropriate
cash and respond to the police station. Upon your arrival at the police station, you will be asked if you have the appropriate cash
and the Detention Specialist will be notified. The Bail Commissioners do not work for the Rochester Police Department; they work for
the Court. You will be told that the Bail
Commissioner on duty will be paged and to have a seat. The Police Department cannot accept
any money for bailing an arrestee.
